Happiness. A funny thing isn't it? Some people have it. Some people don't. Everybody is looking for it. Not everybody finds out. Happiness, the crux of our existence.
A guy could have billions and not be happy. Sure does help the cause though. A guy could be living hand to mouth and be the happiest person in the world .A simple life is a happy life. That's what everybody says. Don't have to many "wants". That's what the god-men tells us. Is it really that simple? What if I have a burning desire to be successful? What if want it with all my heart? Is that going against the 'rules'? Does ambition curtail happiness? Or does it fuel it? Does having a goal and working towards it, striving for more makes one happy? Or does living within one's reach equate to happiness? There are two sides to every coin, there is south to every north, there is yin to every yang...which did you pick? And did it really make you happy?
Let's rephrase the question now. Why do you have to pick one? Can't you be both happy, at peace and always striving for more, never fulfilled? There are two sides two every person. One side, that wants to achieve more and more, be successful and the other side that just wants to be at peace. More often than not the two sides are always competing with it. Success is often a social barometer of happiness. If you equate your happiness with success or achieving a goal you will never be happy. Why? Say you achieve that goal, will you stop there? Will you just stop living? No. At least i hope not. There always will be a new goal. Always. And hence, the happiness will always be on the other side. So near and yet so far.
Imagine though if the both "sides" of you coexist in harmony. How beautiful it would be. You want to create and conquer and yet see and enjoy the finer things in life. There can be peace and harmony, flow and beauty. You could create a legacy for yourself and yet be calm and content. You could have enough and strive for more at the same time. It does not have to be either 0 or 1. it has to be and it is more than that.
Imagine experiencing the feeling of "nirvana" as people call it. Of being one with the world. Where you just float in a sea of colours. You also want to leave something behind, so that people remember you after you are gone, make a positive influence in someone's life, change it for the good maybe.
These are the two parts of us. Each powerful and beautiful in its own. imagine them being one. imagine finding joy in everything. In waking up, in going to sleep, in drinking water, in making someone laugh, in wearing a warm shirt, in finding money in your pocket. There is so much that we don't see. You are so attached to physical things. You aim to acquire and not create. You don't have to live in woods to find happiness. You also don't really need to live in a house. It is everywhere and it is nowhere. You want to know why you were put on this planet? How are you special and unique, and how you are just like everyone?
How is that a guy who spent 38 years in the prison for the crime he didn't commit describe it as the most glorious and profound experience. And how you see so many countless free souls, who are saddened and burdened by worries? Why is that when you see the misery and suffrage in the world, you get sad? What will that amount to? Will that bring a change? No.
You cannot control everything in the world. But you can control how you react to everything. And that is what defines your state of being, whether you are happy or sad. If you keep looking for happiness you will never find it, maybe you just have to stumble into it. Or maybe it already is there, within you. You just have to open your eyes, or perhaps close them just for a bit?
